For creators who sell from the bio
Link in Bio Tracking With a Link in Bio Tracker That Shows Which Post Made the Sale
Gated and paid links on every plan. No platform branding, ever.

The short answer
Link in bio tracking means recording where each click on your bio page came from and what it led to. Instagram already tags bio taps with utm_source=ig, so a tracker that reads UTM tags can split Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and newsletter traffic without extra work, and per-post tracking comes from adding a campaign tag to the link wherever a post carries it.
ExclusiveLink records the link, referrer, UTM source, medium and campaign, country, device and A/B variant on every click, and ties each paid unlock to the link that sold it. Creator shows clicks per link for the last 7 days. Pro opens the full breakdown for up to 12 months, revenue per link and A/B results, and exports every click to CSV.
01 · What your numbers can tell you
Three levels of link in bio analytics, and the question each one answers
Most creators sit on the first level and think they are tracking. They know traffic happened. They do not know what it was worth.
Level 1
Total taps
1,240
What Instagram Insights gives you. Answers "did people tap?" and nothing else.
Level 2
Clicks per link
What a basic bio tool gives you. Answers "which button?" but not "from where?".
Level 3
Source, campaign and revenue
What full tracking gives you. Answers "which post earned, and how much?".

02 · The click record
What the tracker writes down every time someone taps a link
-
The link and the time. Which button, which destination, to the second.
-
The referrer. The site that sent the visitor, where the browser passes it along. Instagram strips it, which is why the UTM tag matters.
-
UTM source, medium and campaign. Read from the address the visitor arrived on and kept for the whole visit, so a click three links down still credits the reel.
-
Country and device. Mobile, tablet or desktop, and the country code. Bots are labeled as bots, so you can set them aside.
-
The A/B variant. When you test two labels on one link, each click is filed under the label the visitor saw.
-
The sale, if there was one. A paid unlock is tied to its link, so revenue sits next to clicks in the same row.
We do not store the visitor's IP address, and no tracker can tell you who a visitor was by name. That is how it should be.
Per-post tracking
How to track which post sent each click
Your bio holds one address, so tracking by post means tagging that address wherever a post can carry its own link. Here is the tagging we recommend, copied straight from setups that work.
| Where the link lives | Address to paste | What you learn |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram bio | yourname.com | Instagram adds utm_source=ig and utm_medium=social on its own, so bio taps arrive labeled |
| Instagram story link sticker | yourname.com?utm_source=ig&utm_campaign=story-oct-05 | That single story, separate from the bio |
| TikTok bio | yourname.com?utm_source=tiktok | TikTok against Instagram, the comparison most creators never see |
| YouTube description | yourname.com?utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=pricing-video | Revenue per video, because every description is its own link |
| Newsletter | yourname.com?utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=issue-41 | Which issue moved people to buy |
| Brand partner or podcast guest spot | yourname.com?utm_source=partner-name | Proof for the next negotiation of what the placement drove |
The honest limit
Two reels posted the same week both point at the same bio address, so no tool can split their bio taps apart after the fact. If one launch matters, put a campaign tag on the bio address for that week (yourname.com?utm_campaign=launch-week) and change it when the next push starts. Story stickers, YouTube descriptions and emails carry their own links, so those are exact.
Why the tag survives the whole visit
A follower from the pricing video might tap the free guide first and the paid course two minutes later. The campaign is kept for the visit, so the course sale still lands under pricing-video. Tools that only tag the first click lose exactly the sales you care about.

Read the free guide row the right way: 941 clicks and $0 is not a failure if it fed the list. Those addresses sit in your leads export, and the link in bio with email capture page shows how to route them into Kit, Flodesk or Mailchimp. The paid rows come from paid links in your bio, which is why revenue can sit in the same table as clicks.

Your options
Instagram Insights, Linktree, Google Analytics or a link in bio tracker
Four ways creators track the bio link. Each is right for someone, and two of them work together.
| Option | Clicks per link | Source and campaign | Revenue per link | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram Insights | No, taps on profile links in total | Instagram only | No | A quick weekly pulse on one platform |
| Linktree | Yes; history of 28 days on Free, 90 on Starter, 365 on Pro, lifetime on Premium | Traffic sources and locations on Pro and Premium | Earnings per link on Pro and Premium | A plain link list where Linktree's fees and branding are acceptable |
| Google Analytics with UTM tags | Only for links to your own site | Yes, the most detail on your site | If your store reports purchases to it | A brand whose sales happen on its own website |
| ExclusiveLink | Yes, on every plan | UTM, country, device on Pro | Yes, paid links on Pro | Creators who sell from the bio and want one report per post and platform |
Linktree retention periods are from its own Insights help article. If you sell on your own Shopify site, keep Google Analytics; tag the buttons on your bio page with UTM codes and both tools agree on the source. If you sell from the bio itself, the tracker is the only place the sale and the click meet. The link in bio analytics metrics guide covers which of these numbers predict income, and the Linktree alternative page compares the rest of the two products.
People also ask
Link in bio tracking questions
How do I track clicks on my link in bio?
Put a link in bio page with click tracking behind your profile link, then tag the address with UTM codes wherever it appears outside your bio, such as utm_source=youtube in a video description. The page then counts clicks per link and splits them by source and campaign. Instagram's own Insights only show total taps.
Can you see who clicks your link in bio?
No tracker shows the name or profile of a person who clicked, on Instagram or anywhere else. You see aggregate data: the link, time, source, campaign, country and device. To learn who someone is, they have to tell you, which is what an email-locked link or a paid link does: the visitor gives an address to get the thing.
Can you track link clicks on Instagram?
Yes. Instagram Insights counts taps on your profile links, and Instagram tags outbound bio links with utm_source=ig and utm_medium=social, so any tool that reads UTM codes can label that traffic. For clicks per button and sales per link you need a bio page with its own tracking.
What does utm_content=link_in_bio mean?
It is a tag Instagram adds to links in your profile, alongside utm_source=ig and utm_medium=social, so analytics tools can tell a bio tap from other Instagram traffic. You did not add it and you do not need to remove it. If you see it in your reports, that visit came from your Instagram bio.
How do I add UTM parameters to my Instagram bio link?
Add them after a question mark, like yourname.com?utm_campaign=launch-week, and paste the full address into Edit profile, Links. Instagram appends its own utm_source=ig and utm_medium=social to bio links, so tag only the campaign and let Instagram supply the source. Change the campaign when a new push starts so each launch gets its own row in the report.
Does Linktree track clicks?
Yes. Every Linktree plan shows views, clicks and click rate, but history is 28 days on Free, 90 on Starter and 365 on Pro. Traffic sources, locations and earnings per link need Pro or Premium, and the Insights CSV download needs Premium, according to Linktree's help center.
What is the best link in bio tracker?
If you only need clicks per button, any bio tool's built-in counter will do. If you sell from the bio, the best tracker is the one that puts revenue and source in the same row, keeps the campaign for the whole visit and lets you export raw clicks. That is what ExclusiveLink Pro is built for; our best link in bio app comparison covers the alternatives.
